Heart of Our Community would like to express appreciation to the Bicycle Collective, that promotes promote cycling as an effective and sustainable form of transportation and as a cornerstone of a cleaner, healthier, and safer society. The Collective provides refurbished bicycles and educational programs to the community, focusing on children and lower income households.
This month Heart of the Community shared the stories of James McCasey who changed his life with a 120 pound weight loss and making bicycling part of a healthy lifestyle; Dylan, an 18 year-old diagnosed with a form of Autism who found that working at the Collective taught him coping skills to use outside of the bike repair shop. Also we met Shimita a refugee who uses the bicycle provided to him as his primary means of transportation, and lastly Mollie Bourdos who finds a sense of real purpose working at the Collective.
